Have you used Bark Busters dog training (the franchise, not a dog collar)?

By petsourc in Dogs on November 2nd, 2009

They send trainers to you. It is $595 for 2-10 sessions, depending on what you need.
They guarantee it for life.
They come to your home. Is it best to have a trainer come to your home to help you with your situation, rather than just take your dog to classes?
Is trying to be the “alpha dog” the solution to many problems?
Please let me know your own personal situation and experience.
Thanks.

  1. I agree with the idea of a one on one session/class with your dog. As a dog owner, it assures me that my dog will get its needed 100% attention and skills training. This is an interesting franchise that may be attractive and suitable to those who are dog lovers. The lifetime guarantee is definitely a major consideration for those who would like to get the service and to its franchisees. An established franchise brand is already popular such that a new franchisee is given a market presence that is already familiar and recognized by many.

  2. The lifetime guarantee includes as many lesson as you may need, so it may be 2, 10 or more depending upon if an owner is doing their work. Group classes are like the canine version of the breakfast club so I preferred the trainer coming to my home. Also, one of the issues my dog had was barking, charging and jumping up on the front door and then on people. In a group class it is tough to recreate your front door. Besides, group classes are not the dog’s normal environment and therefore your dog may not be acting like himself. Besides, factor in drive time, class size ratio (one trainer for 6 to 10 dogs) and a committment of 6 or 8 weeks, well for me the choice was easy. Call them, talk with your trainer and ask them whatever you want. My trainer is very open and honest, the one in your area will likely be the same.

  3. It should be $595 for unlimited visits for the life of your dog so long as you are doing the program they teach you. I didn’t have any limits on my visits. I just had to make sure to do the work. Yes, in home was better. Group training didn’t work – dog was too distracted and they used treats so dog only listened (sometimes)if I had treats. I like being the head dog in our house. It all makes sense once they teach it to you.
